Martial celebrates Monaco knocking Manchester City out of the Champions League

Anthony Martial couldn’t hide his delight after Monaco knocked out Manchester City to reach the Champions League quarter-final.

The Ligue 1 leaders outclassed their Premier League opposition in the opening 45 minutes and led by two goals at half-time.

Leroy Sane’s goal after the break put City back in the driving seat but Tiemoue Bakayoko’s thumping header with 13 minutes to go has fired Leonardo Jardim’s side into the last eight of the competition.

Martial spent two years at Monaco before his £61.5 million transfer to Manchester United, and the forward evidently keeps track of his former club’s progress.

‘It’s a beautiful thing,’ Bakayoko told Canal Plus after the match.

‘I think that over both matches we deserve the qualification.

‘It was very tight, but we were able to be solid at home and score the goals we need. This qualification is due only to
ourselves. Now, we hope to go even further, we must not blush before the other teams qualified in the quarters.

‘We have made a lot of effort, we the players, but also the staff and supporters, who really were a 12th man.’
