Martial far better player than I was at his age – Henry

Thierry Henry insists Manchester United forward Anthony Martial was better than he was at the age of 21.

It’s a common theme for young French talent to be compared to the Arsenal legend.

Following a big-money transfer from AS Monaco (one of Henry’s former clubs) in the summer of 2015, Martial had initially struggled to live up to such high expectations, but is making steps to emulating his compatriot this season.

His form has helped the Red Devils sit joint-top of the Premier League table, seal a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, record a 100% record in their Champions League group and earn the highest of compliments from Henry.

“Anthony Martial is a far better player than I was at that age,” said Henry, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

“He can become a world class player.”

Capable of playing through the middle to great effect, the arrival of Romelu Lukaku this summer coupled with the imminent return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the new year means Martial must settle for a place on the left-wing.

To his credit, he has responded in a positive manner whether it be from the bench or as a starter. Weighing in with three goals and two assists in the league, while he turned in an impressive display in the 4-1 win over CSKA Moscow in Europe last month.
