Martial: I hope to score against Liverpool again

Anthony Martial is hopeful of scoring on Sunday against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman has endured a difficult second season with the Red Devils, scoring just two goals in the league so far.

However, the 21-year-old has fond recollections of facing Liverpool, having scored his first goal for United against their arch-rivals on his debut having come on as a substitute.

The majority of Premier League fans had never heard of Martial when he arrived from AS Monaco as the most expensive teenager in history, but his opening goal for the club underlined the ability he possesses.

When asked about his favourite United goal, Martial said, as reported by the Daily Star: “It has to be the one against Liverpool on my United debut.

Hopefully, I can score against them again.”

Martial also suggested that United still have one foot in the title race, despite a ten-point deficit to leaders Chelsea.

Mourinho’s men are currently on a nine-match winning streak in all competitions and have won their last six games in the Premier League.

While Antonio Conte’s men are looking strong favourites to claim the title, Martial has not given up hope of an unlikely title challenge.

“We’ve done everything we can to win all of our own games. We’ve come back nicely into the mix and we’re not far off third place now,” Martial added.

“We’re five points off second-placed Liverpool too, who we play at the weekend.

“I think we’re definitely moving in the right direction.

“I guess Chelsea have still got quite a healthy lead at the top, but you never know what can happen.

“We just have to keep on in the same way to try and finish as high as we possibly can at the end of the season.”
