Martial: I don’t think me and Thierry Henry are alike

Anthony Martial has dismissed comparisons to Thierry Henry while admitting that it is nice to be mentioned alongside the Arsenal icon.

Since moving to Old Trafford in the summer, Martial has often been touted as the next Henry, and three goals in his first two Premier League outings for the Red Devils only encouraged the comparisons between the 20-year-old and the now-retired striker.

However, while Martial is flattered by those that say he resembles Henry, the France international feels that he does not play in the same mould as the now 38-year-old.

The United man did suggest though that his ambition was to reach the same heights as the former Arsenal player.

Martial told the Express: “Since we came from the same town and share the same beginnings in the game, I’ve been compared to him a lot.

“Although I don’t really think we are very much alike when playing, it’s always nice to be compared to a great player and I hope one day to try to attain the levels he achieved.”

The 20-year-old’s pace and eye for goal has seen him net six in England’s top flight this campaign, but he has, in recent times, been playing on the left- wing for Louis van Gaal’s side rather than up front.

Furthermore, Martial has also provided three assists while creating 26 chances for his teammates in the division this season.

United currently sit outside the top four by six points, and face a battle to secure Champions League football for next season.
