Martial and Rashford are the future of Man United – Mata

Juan Mata has described Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as the future of Manchester United.

Martial is set to finish the season as United’s top scorer with 17 goals in all competitions, while Rashford has come into the side and scored eight since February.

The pair have arguably been the only exciting element of the Red Devils’ season, as Louis van Gaal’s side scored just 49 Premier League goals during an uninspiring campaign.

And Mata, who was not included in Spain’s squad for Euro 2016, believes that both Martial and Rashford will be very important to the club in the future.

“They are both exciting players,” Mata told BBC Sport. “Anthony has done great since the first day he arrived at the club. He has been very important for us. He is showing his talent to everyone in the world.

“Marcus is very good news for the club. We had some injuries and then the manager believed in someone who had come through from the academy.

“It is very important to grow in your confidence at the start of your career. He is Manchester born. He has known the club since he was a kid. We are very happy for him.”

Martial was signed from Monaco last summer in a deal that could increase to £58 million, making him the world’s most expensive teenager, while Rashford has risen through from the club’s academy.

The 18-year-old has done so well over the past four months that when Wayne Rooney returned from injury, Van Gaal played his captain out of position in midfield to accommodate the teenage sensation.
