Mitrovic: Forget Barca or Madrid, my dream was to play for Newcastle

Aleksandar Mitrovic has said that he dreams of becoming a legend at Newcastle and would rather play for the recently relegated side than either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Mitrovic moved to the Magpies last summer but was unable to stop the club from being relegated to the Championship this year, with the club ending the campaign in 18th and two points from safety.

With this drop back down to the English second tier, the striker’s future at St James’ Park has been questioned, along with the availability of other top players at the club.

But the 21-year-old has insisted that he is happy at Newcastle and that he wants to remain in the iconic black and white stripes for many years.

Speaking to Blic Sport, the Serbian said: “At the moment I am living my dream in Newcastle. I hope to be at the club for many years and become a legend.

“Of course many children are dreaming to play for Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

“I always just wanted to wear the jersey of Partizan, Newcastle and Serbia.”

Mitrovic has scored nine goals in his first season with Newcastle in the Premier League, but his fiery nature also saw the young forward sent off twice in the top flight.

He was given his marching orders after netting this past weekend in the final game of the season as Newcastle beat Tottenham 5-1 in a demolition of the North London club.
