Mkhitaryan: I loved watching Eric Cantona play for Man United

Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed that he loved watching Eric Cantona in action for the Red Devils.

Mkhitaryan has adorned himself to United fans in the brief period that he has represented the club and will be hoping to become as highly regarded as Cantona.

The 27-year-old has spoke of the former United players who led him to follow the club’s progress and maintains that he enjoyed watching the likes of Cantona.

Mkhitaryan told United Review, as reported by Manchester United‘s official website: “I started watching United at the time when Eric Cantona was in the team and I loved watching him play. Andrei Kanchelskis was another who I’d keep an eye out for – as he was a Russian player, I found that interesting.

“But, in terms of a United idol, that would have to be Sir Alex Ferguson.”

The Armenian scored an outstanding goal in the 3-1 win over Sunderland on Boxing Day, producing a scorpion-like finish while demonstrating exceptional flexibility and vision.

Mkhitaryan made his return from an ankle injury against David Moyes’ team, coming off the bench, after picking up the injury in United’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

The former Borussia Dortmund star, who has scored two goals in his last two appearances, could make his fourth league start when United welcome Middlesbrough to Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.
