Mkhitaryan is Manchester United’s version of Ozil – Redknapp

Former Liverpool player Jamie Redknapp has praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan, stating that the Armenian is Manchester United‘s answer to Mesut Ozil.

Mkhitaryan endured a hugely frustrating start to his United career as he was left out by manager Jose Mourinho for several fixtures. However, the 27- year-old has thrived of late and has scored goals in successive games against Zorya Luhansk and Tottenham Hotspur.

Although he has often played as a winger, Mkhitaryan has demonstrated in some recent games that he is also capable of performing effectively as an attacking midfielder, prompting Redknapp to compare him to Arsenal star Ozil.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “I don’t buy the argument that Henrikh Mkhitaryan needed time to adjust to the Premier League. If he had started sooner, I’m convinced Manchester United would have six or seven more points.

“He is like Philippe Coutinho or Mesut Ozil in his ability to unlock the door and see passes that others don’t. He shone in the fast and furious pace of the Bundesliga so why wasn’t he even on the bench for so long?

“Mkhitaryan’s goal was set up by Ander Herrera, who has been United’s unsung hero. He is by far the most improved player in the league this season.”

Adept at gliding past opponents, Mkhitaryan has created five chances in the Premier League so far this season, while he has a stellar average pass accuracy of 83%.

Mkhitaryan is now set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury against Tottenham, but he will doubtless be delighted that he has finally manage to force his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans.
