Mohamed Salah ‘close to finalising record-breaking Liverpool move’

Liverpool are on the verge of completing a record-breaking £35m move for Roma winger Mohamed Salah.

The 24-year-old Egyptian winger nearly joined the Anfield giants in 2014 instead opting for rivals Chelsea.

His spell in London was a disappointment and he subsequently moved to Serie A outfit Roma where he has reinvigorated his career.

According to the Mirror, Salah’s representative, Ramy Abbas Issa, has already been in England to discuss his transfer to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Current employers Roma, who are keen to balance the books, demand €40m (£35m) for his services with negotiations nearing an end.

His acquisition would make him the club’s most expensive purchase as well as a welcome addition for Klopp as he looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of a potential season in European football’s premier club competition.

Liverpool finished their 2016/17 league campaign fourth in the Premier League meaning they enter the Champions League at the qualifying stages.

Salah, who is capable of playing across the forward line, meanwhile helped Roma finish runners-up to perennial Italian champions Juventus.

He finished the season having managed 19 goals and 15 assists in 41 matches with 15 of those strikes coming in Serie A alone.

Roma president James Pallotta meanwhile has quelled reports of his imminent departure in an interview with New York-based Sirius XM Radio.

“Is Salah going to Liverpool? With these questions, you remind me of the Roman journalists,” he said.

“For now there is nothing. They continue to make offers for many of our players. If this is the case, three or four of our best players could leave.

“We will see, but to improve we need four or five reinforcements because we are in the Champions League.

“In this past season, we suffered because of the amount of injuries we had, especially in defense. Florenzi’s injury costed us at least four points.

“Also, we did not have enough depth upfront: Dzeko scored 39 goals, but if he got injured, I do not know where we would have finished in the league.”
