Mourinho to face no further FA action after sending-off at Southampton

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will face no further action from the FA after he was sent to the stands during his side’s 1-0 win over Southampton.

Deep into injury-time, referee Craig Pawson dismissed Mourinho after the United boss stepped onto the pitch and also appeared to accidentally collide with fourth official Mike Jones.

He was trying to get his players back into position to see off any late threats from the hosts, but was dismissed by referee Craig Pawson.

It is, however, understood that Mourinho was not abusive to the officials and did not confront them after the game. Referee Pawson had no choice, however, but to send off Mourinho once he was alerted to the encroachment by his fourth official Jones.

After he was dismissed, Mourinho high-fived Saints boss before leaving the technical area.

When asked why he had been sent off after the match, Mourinho said: “I don’t know, you have to ask the referee.”

A solitary goal from Romelu Lukaka was enough to seal the win for the Red Devils.
