Mourinho refuses to deny Pogba’s £100m move to Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he can neither confirm nor deny a £100 million move for Paul Pogba is imminent.

According to Squawka Manchester United submitted a £100m bid for Pogba on Wednesday. Negotiations are thought to be still ongoing despite reports in France claiming the deal is agreed. However, United are confident the move will happen.

The France international left Manchester United in 2012 on a free transfer – United were given compensation of roughly £800,000 – but his form over the last four years could now make him the world’s most expensive player.

However, Mourinho – who jetted off to China this week with his new team for the club’s pre-season tour – refused to give much away at his press conference on Thursday morning.

“I don’t confirm and I don’t deny,” said United boss Mourinho. “I cannot tell you.

“I don’t think it is correct to speak about players of other clubs. My directors did a fantastic work to do 75% of the job I ask them to do. I gave them a few options. We have just 25% to do until 31 August.

“We are in great conditions to have a great market. We are calm. We have three faces to fill the profile. I am confident Mr Woodward will get the player we need to get a good balance.”

Mourinho’s comments regarding ‘75%’ of the job being done suggests he is still looking for that fourth player, after confirming at his press conference when unveiled that the club had signed three of his targets.

Overnight, Pogba‘s Miami hairdresser dropped a big hint that the midfielder was on his way to Old Trafford by commenting that he was restyling his hair ahead of the switch. He later deleted the post.

Manchester United will face Borussia Dortmund in their first pre-season game in China on Friday, before then taking on rivals Manchester City a few days later.
