Mourinho tells friends to expect £80m signing at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly told friends to expect an £80 million signing at Old Trafford, amid speculation the club will buy Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils are willing to break their own club record – £59.7 million paid for Angel di Maria – in order to bring Pogba back to the club after departing four years ago.

The France star left United for Juventus on a free transfer after his agent Mino Raiola fell out with then manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but Mourinho is confident he can persuade the 23-year-old to rejoin the Red Devils, according to the Daily Mail, and has already told friends to expect a big money signing.

Furthermore, the newspaper adds that Mourinho’s claim refers to Pogba, meaning the new Red Devils boss is hinting the big name star is on his way to Old Trafford this summer.

Pogba is currently with the France squad at Euro 2016 and scored in the quarter-final win over Iceland on Sunday night.

Mourinho still needs to convince Pogba that returning to United is the right option for him, with the club unable to offer Champions League football next season.

However, the Mail report the club will offer Pogba £250,000 a week in order to try to persuade the no.10 star to return, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward desperate to make a marquee signing this summer.

The newspaper adds that a deal is likely to include a number of add-ons based on performance-related bonuses – similar to Man United’s agreement with AS Monaco for Anthony Martial.

Mourinho is expected to duck questions over Pogba when he takes his first press conference as United manager on Tuesday.
