Muller calls on Bayern to be more “horny”

Thomas Muller has called on Bayern Munich to show their “horny” side when they meet Benfica in the return leg of their quarter-final Champions League clash next week.

Pep Guardiola’s side ran out 1-0 victors in the first meeting between the two sides on Tuesday night, with Arturo Vidal’s early strike proving the only goal of the game at the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarians pulled into the lead with less than two minutes on the clock but the defensive unit which Guardiola praised in the lead-up to the game held firm for the remainder, as they ensured it’ll be all to play for at the Estadio da Luz next Wednesday.

Bayern hold a slender advantage in the tie and Muller clearly wasn’t fully satisfied with the 1-0 scoreline, demanding after the match that he and his team-mates must be hornier next time out to ensure their progression to the semi-finals.

“We did not have as many chances as we would have liked and the few [we had] we did not use,” he told reporters, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

“We would like [to have] scored a second goal, but we go with a good result to the second leg. For the second leg, we need [to be] a little more… horny and esprit.”

Muller added that Benfica “caused us trouble, they know what they are doing” and the tie certainly remains finely poised against a team that Guardiola described as potentially having “the best back four in Europe”, as quoted by the Guardian.

Bayern have rarely failed to show their frisky sides this season as they have scored a whopping 66 goals in the Bundesliga alone, with 26 more to their name in the Champions League, including six in two games against last year’s finalists Juventus in the last round.

They created 13 chances to Benfica’s four on Tuesday night and attempted 16 shots at goal but couldn’t find a way past the Portuguese side’s rearguard after making the early breakthrough, leaving it all to play for next week.
