Neville: Ronaldo brought a mirror to training on his first day at Man United

Former Manchester United full-back Phil Neville revealed that Real Madrid‘s Cristiano Ronaldo brought a mirror to training on his first day at his old club.

Neville and Ronaldo spent two seasons together at Old Trafford before the former moved to Everton in 2005.

Ronaldo, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon for around £12 million back in 2003, made 292 appearances in all competitions and scored 118 goals at the club.

Speaking at the presentation of Guillem Balague’s new book, Neville said (via the Mirror): “There are lots of stories about Ronaldo, but I prefer just two or three. When he arrived in Manchester he put a mirror next to his place, and every day he was [looking] in the mirror – looking at his clothes etc. His image is phenomenal.”

The Portuguese international arrived in England’s top flight as a young boy supremely confident in his own ability, and that was certainly not misplaced.

He frustrated United fans, Sir Alex Ferguson and some of his teammates with his flashy footwork and desire to humiliate his opponents with outrageous skill, but soon got busy and contributed heavily to his ex-club’s dominance under their highly acclaimed former boss.

After missing the start of this season while recovering from the injury he picked up in the Euro 2016 final, Ronaldo has scored five goals and assisted two in eight La Liga games.
