Neymar scores the quickest goal in Olympic history as Brazil beat Honduras 6-0

Barcelona superstar Neymar etched his name into the Olympic Games record books today by scoring the quickest goal in the competition’s history for Brazil against Honduras.

FIFA have confirmed that the 24-year-old’s opener was timed at just 15 seconds of the semi-final and that means he has eclipsed Janine Becker’s effort for the Canadian’s women’s team as she scored with 19 seconds on the clock against Australia a few days ago.

In scoring the historic goal, Neymar clashed with Honduran goalkeeper Luis Aurelio Lopez and was left needing treatment on the sidelines after being stretchered off.

However, the Brazil captain was able to return to action soon after and registered assists for central defender Marquinhos and new Manchester City prospect Gabriel Jesus, before completing the scoring in injury time from the penalty spot to secure a 6-0 win for the hosts and book their place in Gold Medal match.

Neymar’s brace against Honduras takes his tally of goals in the competition to three and he will have the chance to increase that total in the final when Brazil face Germany, hoping to banish memories of the country’s failure at the World Cup on home soil two summers ago.
