Neymar “sues Brazil court for leaking private information to press”

Barcelona forward Neymar is suing a Brazilian court after leaking information relating to a tax evasion case against him, according to reports.

Neymar, who is alleged to have used businesses co-owned with his father to evade tax, filed the complaint in May after it was revealed in March he had been ordered to pay £39.6m in fines and back-taxes between 2012 and 2012 in relation to his transfer from Santos to Barcelona.

According to documents which have been made available online, reports AS, the court has 15 days to give all the names of those who had access to the information of proceedings undertaken against the Brazil international.

Eduardo Santos da Rocha Penteado, the judge working on the case, believes there is evidence to suggest the media obtained across to private information relating to the proceedings against Neymar prematurely.

The 24-year-old is seeking compensation and wants the court to adopt “effective measures” against further leaks while keeping him updated on what is being done to punish the responsible parties.

It was alleged false contracts were created to avoid paying large sums of money. As a result, last year, assets related to Neymar worth around £36m were frozen because of the tax evasion allegations.
