Nigeria coach Rohr reveals what Wenger told him about Iwobi

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr believes there is more to come from Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi… and he has it on the authority of Arsene Wenger himself.

Iwobi has enjoyed a remarkable year for both club and country, establishing himself as a regular in the Arsenal side and making his competitive bow as a senior Nigerian international.

The 20-year-old has since gone on establish himself as an important figure in Rohr’s side and made headlines around the world during the international break for an impudent ‘rainbow flick’ that earned comparison’s with Iwobi’s legendary uncle Jay-Jay Okocha.

Undoubtedly the future looks very bright for Iwobi, and his club manager believes there is plenty more to come.

Rohr said: “When I met Arsene Wenger last month, we talked about Iwobi and he told me there’s more to his game than what we are seeing at the moment.

“He is a confident lad. He is not afraid to try new tricks in training and games. He can only get better; his best is yet to come.”

Iwobi’s impressive display in Nigeria’s 3-1 win over Algeria set the Super Eagles on course to progress to the 2018 World Cup– after two wins Rohr’s side are four points clear of Cameroon and will resume their campaign next August at home to their great rivals.
