Nigeria Olympic team still stranded in Atlanta two days before Japan opener

The Nigeria Olympic team are still stranded in Atlanta after they failed to travel to Brazil again, according to Daily Post.

The Dream Team VI are to play their first game in the men’s football event against Japan on Friday morning (2am Nigerian time) but Samson Siasia and his squad are still at their training base in Atlanta, USA.

Officials are still looking to get a chartered flight, which will transport them to Manaus in Brazil, where they play their first two matches against Japan and Sweden.

“I am surprised that a team who will play their opening game of the Olympics on Friday are still in USA,” former Nigeria international Sam Sodje told AfricanFootball.

“This team have not been well treated by authorities and Nigerians should not expect miracle from the team that doesn’t have the best of preparation and no motivation.

“The FA keep saying no money, they owe coaches and no allowances for the players. The NFF have no clue, claiming no money to cater for players and coaches, but have money to host FIFA president while pretending everything is good.”
