Nigeria’s Ndidi rated best tackler in Europa League

KRC Genk of Belgium’s Nigerian international Wilfred Ndidi has been adjudged the best tackler of the ball in the 2016/17 Europa League season by influential soccer statistics website Whoscored.com.

In a tweet on its official Twitter handle, @whoscored announced that:

“Wilfred Ndidi: Has made more tackles + interceptions (56) than any other player in the Europa League this season”

Ndidi has been involved in all five of Genk’s group games, playing every single minute, as the modest Belgian side qualified for the next round of the competition even with a game to spare.

The Super Eagles midfielder was also involved in all six of Genk’s preliminary games of the competition as they overcame Lokomotive Zagreb, Cork City and Buducnost to reach the group stages.
In the group stage proper, Ndidi scored twice against Spanish giants home and away, first in a 2-0 home win and another in the 5-3 loss away to the Basque team. He was also cautioned three times in the competition.
The former Nath Boys defender has become a standout player for the BlueWhites this season and is a subject of transfer speculations linking him with a move away from Genk to bigger European teams particularly English Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspurs and Leicester City.
Ndidi is contracted to Genk until 2020 but, without a release clause in his contract, it is expected that an attractive offer could persuade the team to let him go.
