OFFICIAL: Chelsea announce the signing of Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina

 
Chelsea have confirmed signing of Marcos Alonso Former Bolton Wanderers left-back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina.

According to the club’s official website, the deal was completed earlier today and he becomes Antonio Conte’s third major signing of the summer, following Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante to Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea Football Club has today brought Marcos Alonso back to the Premier League with the completion of the defender’s transfer from Fiorentina,” the Premier League club announced on their website on deadline day Wednesday.

“The 25-year-old Spanish left-back is the first defender signed by Antonio Conte following the recruitment of a forward, a midfielder and a goalkeeper to his squad. He has signed a five-year contract.”

The Daily Mail say that the Spaniard has joined the Premier League giants for £23 million and he was Conte’s top target ahead of deadline day.

However, speaking to Chelsea’s official website after completing the transfer, Alonso said: ‘I’m very happy. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the perfect place for me to continue developing. It’s time for me to win some titles.‘It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me. My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for so I’m really excited about the challenge and I’m looking forward to working with my new team-mates.’

Alonso already has Premier League experience as he had a spell at Sunderland during his time at in 2014. Furthermore, the Spaniard also played for another English club earlier in his career: Bolton Wanderers.

Antonio Conte was looking for a left-back after allowing Baba Rahman to leave the club on loan to Schalke, while make-shift full-back Kenedy was allowed to join Watford.
