Ozil blasts media and talks relationship with Arsene Wenger

MESUT OZIL has tried to set the record straight on the title race.

The German World Cup winner claimed the Gunners had ‘screwed up’ their chances of lifting the Premier League.

His comments were deemed ‘unwelcome’ by Arsene Wenger.

But speaking exclusively to BT Sport ahead of Arsenal’s clash against West Ham today (12:45pm), Ozil thinks his comments were misconstrued.

“Of course I gave a few interviews in Germany, when I was there with the national team. I didn’t say it like that, quite the opposite, I said it is not in our hands anymore,” Ozil said.

“It very much depends on how the two teams in front of us play and of course they have to lose some points.

“Of course it has to be our goal to win all the games we have. But a few weeks ago, we could have won the league of our own volition.

“The way it is now, we have to wait for Leicester to slip up. That is what I said.”

And Ozil insists his relationship with Arsene Wenger is still strong.

He said: “The English media put it somewhat differently, but my relationship with Arsene Wenger is very, very good and we speak about things, so we cleared that up very quickly.

“He knows what kind of a player I am and how I present myself in public.

“I always stand by the team and he knows that and that is what we spoke about and it was a very quick thing.”
