Pochettino says managing PSG would be a dream

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted it would be a “dream” to return to Paris Saint-Germain one day and become manager of the club.

The former Argentina defender has excelled in charge of the Lilywhites since moving to White Hart Lane from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

However, Pochettino has made many of Europe’s big guns stand up and take notice this season, having pushed Spurs so close to the Premier League title.

While the crown is yet to be won by any team, Monday night’s draw at home to West Bromwich Albion means Spurs look set to lose out to Leicester City for the top gong.

However, with Laurent Blanc’s future under the spotlight at the Parc des Princes and Pochettino earning rave reviews, there has been speculation the 42-year-old could move back to the country he played in.

“I’ve always said that I would be pleased to join a great club like PSG,” Pochettino told French radio station RMC. “Come to Paris? I hope so. It is true that it would please me. It’s part of my dreams. I try to watch all their matches, especially in the Champions League.

Pochettino expressed concern over the quality of Ligue 1 but said he followed it closely as it was a “good source of major players”.

“I watch a lot of live matches in the French league,” he added. “The championship is not very attractive as PSG are a long way ahead of the other teams and I mostly look at the French league because it is a source of major players, players who would adapt well to playing in England.”

Laurent Blanc’s future as PSG boss remains uncertain following the club’s exit at the hands of Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Jose Mourinho has been linked with the role should PSG opt to dispense with Blanc’s services.

Pochettino spent two years during his playing days turning out for Paris Saint-Germain but following his retirement from the game in 2006, he has gone on to manage the likes of Espanyol, Southampton and Spurs.

The 44-year-old, who has been linked with the Manchester United managerial job as well, with Louis van Gaal’s future in doubt, will almost certainly have left some Spurs fans extremely worried following his comments.
