Podolski mocks Mourinho over Schweinsteiger snub after Man Utd humbling at Chelsea

Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski aimed a sly dig at Jose Mourinho over his insistence to snub Bastian Schweinsteiger, as Manchester United lost 4-0 at Chelsea on Sunday.

Podolski tweeted the following message during the game in support of his former international teammate:

Following Mourinho’s appointment back in May, Schweinsteiger has found himself frozen out of United’s first-team squad, with the likes of Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and summer signing Paul Pogba all ahead of him in the pecking order.

However the Portuguese still appears to be searching for his best midfield combination, which has left some fans questioning if Schweinsteiger could be brought back into the fold. The former World Cup winner arrived at Old Trafford last summer under Louis van Gaal, but endured an injury-hit campaign in the Premier League.

He made just 18 top flight appearances for United, two of which came at the turn of the year, with his last appearance coming in the 1-0 win at Manchester City back in March. Mourinho was criticised for his treatment of the 32-year-old, with Podolski now throwing in his support following another bad result for the Red Devils.

Goals from Pedro, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante left United five points outside the top four in seventh, as they’ve now won just one of their last six Premier League games.
