Premier League title race is already over, no one can catch Chelsea – Shaka Hislop

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shaka Hislop believes the race for the Premier League title is already over as he can’t see any other team catching up with Chelsea, saying these sides don’t have the quality to hurt the Blues.

Chelsea defeated Sunderland 1-0 on Wednesday evening to claim their tenth consecutive league victory and move six points clear at the top of the division.

Diego Costa didn’t manage to score in the win over the Black Cats but the striker has 12 league goals this season, prompting Hislop to say he is in the best form of his career.

And with a composure running through the team plus the influence of world- class game-changers, Hislop feels that there is no chance another Premier League side will win the title this season and that Chelsea have already wrapped up the trophy.

Speaking on ESPN Hislop said: “Let’s all pack up and go home right now. I just don’t think there are enough teams in the league that have enough to hurt them at the back.

“They have Diego Costa who is playing the best football of his carer. They get goals, they don’t panic when they go behind, and they have genuine individual game changers.

“[Do I] say they won’t lose another game between now and the end of the season – no. I just don’t think there are enough teams in this league that can overturn that six point gap.”

The most consecutive wins in Premier League history is 14, a record set by Arsenal in 2002. Chelsea can move onto 11 and closer to matching, or even beating the record, when they take on Crystal Palace on Saturday.
