Real Madrid announce record-breaking £108m new deal for Toni Kroos

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has signed a new contract with the club until 2022, which is reportedly worth a remarkable €120 million (£108million).

The Germany international joined the Spanish giants in the summer of 2014 from Bayern Munich, despite being heavily linked with Manchester United.

Regarded as one of the finest midfielders at the time, Kroos – who has created more chances (19) than any other Real Madrid player in La Liga this term – has come on leaps and bounds over the last two years for Los Blancos.

Developing a formidable partnership in the middle of the park alongside Luka Modric and Casemiro, Kroos is regarded as an indispensable member of the Real Madrid team.

And Real Madrid today confirmed that the 26-year-old had put pen to paper on a deal, extending his stay by a further six years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The official statement read: “Real Madrid CF and Toni Kroos have agreed to the extension of the player ‘s contract, which is linked to the club until 30 June 2022.

“On Thursday, at 13:30 h, Toni Kroos will appear before the media in the room press the Bernabeu.”

Kroos’ deal was due to expire in 2020, but AS reported that Real Madrid were keen to double his earnings to a hefty €20 million per season – €120 million (£108m) over the next five seasons – which is up from his €11 million a season prior sum.

If the reports are true, the deal would make Kroos the highest-paid Germany of all-time.

Kroos has played over 100 times over the last three seasons for Real Madrid and scored four goals in the process for Zinedine Zidane’s side, winning one Champions League trophy in the process.
