Real Madrid demand £60m from Man United for James Rodriguez

Manchester United have been asked to pay £60 million by Real Madrid if they want to sign James Rodriguez this summer.

The Colombian arrived at the Bernabeu off the back of a fantastic World Cup campaign in the summer of 2014, and enjoyed an excellent debut season in La Liga under Carlo Ancelotti. However, it’s been a complete contrast this term, with Rodriguez failing to capture the magic of the year previous.

Now, according to the Mirror, the 24-year-old is expected to leave Los Blancos this summer, with a number of clubs, including the likes of United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, believed to be interested in his services.

However, documents revealed by Football Leaks show that Real paid £60m for Rodriguez, and would want to recoup that if they sold him this summer.

The newspaper claims that Juventus have been scared off by that valuation, and with PSG looking to make a bold move for Neymar at the end of the season as well, the Premier League duo are the financial front-runners in this race.

This season Rodriguez has scored five goals and created 45 chances in 19 La Liga appearances, with a shot accuracy of 65% and an average pass accuracy of 86%.

Los Blancos sit third on 69 points, one adrift of Atletico Madrid in second and seven behind leaders Barcelona, although they did beat their greatest rivals in Saturday’s El Clasico at the Camp Nou.

As for Rodriguez’s potential suitors United, they sit fifth in the Premier League on 53 points, one adrift of the top four with just seven games remaining.

Next up for Real is their Champions League quarter-final clash with Wolfsburg on Wednesday night, while the Red Devils take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in their next game at the weekend.
