Real Madrid switch focus from Hazard to Mbappe

Real Madrid already had doubts over whether to move for Eden Hazard this summer before the Chelsea star fractured his right ankle.

The Blues star sustained the injury in freakish fashion while training with the Belgium national team on Sunday. The 26-year- old’s foot became stuck in the turf while attempting a shot. No other player was involved.

Hazard has already had a scan while still with Belgium to diagnose the problem, but Standard Sport understands he will be assessed by Chelsea’s medical team on Monday.

He has privately accepted that he could be out for a minimum of two months, and his ankle injury makes a move to Real Madrid even more unlikely.

Chelsea have told Hazard he will not be sold under any circumstances, according to reports.

Plus, in a bid to get him to sign a new deal, the club have assured the Belgian that he will be the focal point of the team for years to come.

Real Madrid were already having second thoughts about making Hazard the first £100m transfer.

They believe 21-year-old Marco Asensio, who scored the fourth goal in their Champions League triumph over Juventus, can become a star in the game.

Real Madrid are now looking at making Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, who is also a target for Arsenal, their marquee acquisition of the summer.

Arsenal had seen a £87million bid rejected for Mbappe last week, according to London Evening Standard.

The Champions League winners are also hoping to buy keeper David de Gea from Manchester United.
