REPORT: Barcelona have clause to sign Bayern conqueror Saul Niguez

Barcelona have first option clause to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez it has been revealed.

Saul, 21, has been impressive for the Spanish side this season and hit the headlines this week as he scored a stunning goal against Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

As reported by Sport, Barcelona have first refusal on Saul as a consequence of the deal that saw David Villa move to Atletico in 2013. Although Saul has a contract at Rojiblancos until 2020, Barcelona have the option to equal or raise any offers made for the player, while alternatively they could elect to pay the €60 million release clause in his contract.

Barcelona have a similar option on another Atletico player, with defender Javi Manquillo, who is currently on loan at Marseille, believed to be the individual in question.

The Catalan giants are likely to be heavily active in the summer transfer window as they seek to add depth to their star-studded squad. Saul is an intriguing option, particularly on account of his versatility, with the 21- year-old capable of playing as a central midfielder or on either flank. He has created 16 chances in La Liga this season.

Luis Enrique’s side are currently involved in an enthralling title race with Atletico and Real Madrid, with Barcelona currently top of the table on goal difference going into tomorrow’s game away to Real Betis.
