REPORT: Real Madrid open talks over £25.9m move for Courtois

Real Madrid have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ahead of a proposed £25.9 million move.

According to the Mirror, Real are keen on landing a new keeper this season, despite Keylor Navas helping them reach a record 40 games unbeaten across all competitions.

Courtois is under contract until 2019 with the Blues, but has so far failed to agree an extension to his current five-year deal.

Los Blancos have set aside €30 million (£25.9m) to try and lure the Belgian stopper back to Spain, where he spent three years on loan from Chelsea with Madrid rivals Atletico.

The report states Real’s approach is the second time they’ve tried for Courtois, after failing with an attempt in August of last year.

The 24-year-old has been in excellent form this season, keeping 12 clean sheets in 21 Premier League appearances to help Antonio Conte’s side reach the summit of the table.

Courtois has been a Chelsea player since 2011, but he spent three seasons on loan with Atleti before succeeding Petr Cech as the Blues’ first choice keeper in the 2014/15 season.

Since then he’s been a fixture in the side, helping them win the Premier League title and League Cup under Jose Mourinho in his first campaign.
