REPORT: Ronaldo to be offered Madrid contract extension till 2020

Real Madrid are reportedly set to offer Cristiano Ronaldo a new contract, reneging on their original plans to sell the superstar winger.

It had been strongly rumoured that Madrid would look to sell the 31-year-old this summer, while his value remained high, with Paris Saint-Germain a possible destination.

However, a combination of Ronaldo’s fine form this season, which has seen him register 11 league assists, and the lack of consistency from his teammates has caused the club to reconsider its stance, the Daily Mail reports.

The source claims that Ronaldo is now to be offered a contract extension that will see his current deal, which is set to expire in 2018, run until 2020.

It is reported that there would be no major adjustment to his £16.5m salary, while if he were to see out the deal, the contract would take him up to the age of 35.

Florentino Perez had hoped that the club’s record signing Gareth Bale would be ready to fill the void left by Ronaldo, but the Welshman’s injury issues this season have caused the chairman to alter his plans, the Mail suggests.

Los Blancos’ No.7 has been in stunning form this term, netting 31 goals in La Liga and 16 in the Champions League.

In the latter competition, he has scored as many hat-tricks (three) as every other player combined, with his latest securing a 3-2 aggregate victory over Wolfsburg in the quarter-final.
