Ribery urges Bayern Munich to offer Robben a new deal

Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has said the German club need to keep hold of Arjen Robben with the 32-year-old’s current contract expiring next summer.

The pair have been a formidable duo for Bayern since the latter arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2009 with the pair helping the club to win five Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

And chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said the German club are set for renewal talks with Robben after Christmas.

“Arjen is a very important player for Bayern,” said the Frenchman, as reported by Goal.

“We need players like Arjen. Players with a lot of experience and a big name. That is part of Bayern.”

Ribery recently agreed his own contract extension with Bayern, which has tied him down to the club until June 2018. He will be 35 once his new deal runs out.

The Dutchman has not enjoyed the best of seasons so far, making just seven appearances, scoring three goals and creating 11 chances including two assists.

Meanwhile, Bayern have also struggled this season by their high standards and currently sit in second place in the Bundesliga, three points behind RB Leipzig.

They travel to Mainz this weekend looking to keep pressure on the league leaders as they seek their fifth consecutive title.
