The forward wowed the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu with a thrilling display to take Los Blancos to the Champions League semi-finals for the sixth consecutive occasion, but was adamant it was not his best European evening.

The Portugal international struck twice in the space of 90 seconds to level the tie just 17 minutes in at the Santiago Bernabeu, and settled matters with a superb chipped free-kick 13 minutes from time.

However, the Portuguese is not relishing the prospect of facing their ach- rivals Barcelona.

Asked if he would prefer to face Barcelona or Atletico Madrid – who meet in their second-leg clash on Wednesday – in the last four, Ronaldo replied: “It is complicated. Atletico is the better defensive team, difficult to score goals [against].

Despite notching all three goals in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Wolfsburg on Tuesday, Ronaldo insisted that he has performed better in the Champions League.
