Ronaldo: I dreamt of being the best and now I’ve achieved it

After a historic year for Cristiano Ronaldo, it is hard to see what is next for the Portuguese star, but there are still plenty of challenges the Real Madrid winger hopes to conquer in the coming seasons.

A Champions League with Real Madrid and a Euro 2016 win with Portugal meant Ronaldo was crowned Balon d’Or and FIFA’s newly created ‘The Best’ award.

“I dreamt of being the best and now I’ve achieved it,” he said at the ceremony. “It was the best year of my career.

“Winning the Euro with Portugal was the height of my career.”

As to his critics, the Real No. 7 believes the individual and collective awards speak for themselves.

“I have no doubt that I’m a part of football history,” he claimed. “To win ‘The Best’ is a privilege and winning the first one is special.

“People can see how nervous I was on the sideline during the Euro final – the images speak for themselves.

“It was a glorious day.”

As for what 2017 has in store, the Madrid star was hungry for more.

“There are a lot of challenges that remain, trophies to win and goals to score,” he concluded.
