Ronaldo equals Hugo Sanchez’s La Liga record despite Madrid losing unbeaten run

Cristiano Ronaldo became the joint-record scorer from penalty kicks in La Liga history but saw Real Madrid finally lose as their unbeaten streak was broken by Sevilla in a 2-1 defeat.

Ronaldo got the chance to put Real ahead just after the hour mark from the penalty spot after Dani Carvajal was fouled in the area by goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

And the iconic forward tucked away the spot-kick to put his side a goal ahead and also score his 56th penalty, which according to Opta, puts Ronaldo level with Hugo Sanchez as the player with most penalties scored in La Liga history.

Despite the finish from Ronaldo, Sevilla stepped up a gear in the second half and eventually found an equaliser, which came in the form of a Sergio Ramos own-goal five minutes from time.

And Sevilla found a late winner, and ended Madrid’s unbeaten run, as Jovetic fired home to secure the win for Jorge Sampaoli’s side.

The result puts Sevilla in second, one point behind Real, while Zinedine Zidane’s side come to terms with their first loss since April, in the Champions League against Wolfsburg.
