Ronaldo hits back at Pique after “easy group” jibe

Cristiano Ronaldo has told Gerard Pique to look at his “very pretty” tweet after the Barcelona defender accused Real Madrid of having an easy run to winning the Champions League last season.

The 31-year-old made the comment after he collected the UEFA Best Player in Europe award on Thursday after the conclusion of this season’s Champions League group phase draw.

Pique, earlier in the week to part in a question and answer session on Twitter answering a wide-range of topics, and when Madrid’s latest Champions League conquest was brought up, he couldn’t resist a dig.

Which, translated in English, reads: “An easy group. In the last 16, Italy’s third [placed team]. In the quarters, Germany’s eighth [placed team]. In the semis, England’s fourth [placed team]. Return leg at home.”

Ronaldo then took the opportunity to respond to the Barcelona defender’s trolling.

“Well, I’m not going to answer,” Ronaldo said in conversation with the El Larguero radio show after being asked to respond.

“What I can say to Pique is that he can see my tweet [with a] very pretty photo.”

Ronaldo pipped teammate Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann to the prize – his second since the award’s inception in 2010.

It comes on the back of one his most successful campaigns which culminated with leading Portugal to their first major international honour at Euro 2016.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner arrived in France having converted the winning penalty to secure Real their eleventh European Cup in Milan.

Across last season the Portuguese forward scored an impressive 51 goals across 48 appearances for Los Blancos.
