Sadio Mane: “I’ve always tried to copy Ronaldinho”

Liverpool star Sadio Mane has revealed that he always tries to emulate Ronaldinho by being happy and smiling during matches.

Mane joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window from Southampton for a deal that could rise to £36 million, which would make him their most expensive signing of all time.

The winger had split opinion after some inconsistent performances over two seasons on the south coast but Jurgen Klopp and the Reds were confident he’d be a success.

He’s been even more impressive than anyone would have ever imagined, though, and has already lived up to his price-tag – and now he’s revealed that he tries to copy former World Player of the Year Ronaldinho in one particular aspect.

“Some people say I don’t smile enough. I think that’s wrong. I’m usually smiling and having a laugh in training because I enjoy football,” he said, via the club’s official website.

“Ronaldinho always did that and I’ve always tried to copy him. I think footballers have plenty of reasons to smile. We have a great job that everybody would like to have.”

Mane has scored three goals and assisted one more in his first seven Premier League matches for Liverpool as he has slotted into Klopp’s attack seamlessly.

The winger has a 71% shot accuracy and has converted 42.9% of his chances on goal too.
