Sanchez: I am at the same level as Ronaldo and Messi

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez believes he is good enough to be considered among the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Sanchez’s former Barcelona team-mate Messi and his Real Madrid rival Ronaldo are widely considered to be the best players in world football, and collectively have won the Ballon d’Or award for the last eight years.

The Chile international left the Catalans two years ago in search of regular football and has established himself as a crucial member of Arsene Wenger’s side in North London.

And Sanchez, 27, feels that he should be classed in the same bracket as the two superstars, saying that he does not believe he is worse than any player on the pitch.

Speaking to Sport, he said: “I have reached a level where I can compete with great players. I do not feel inferior to anybody.

“I liken [my qualities] to Messi and Ronaldo. I have the same abilities as them.”

Sanchez scored 13 goals in the Premier League last season to take his tally to 30 in the competition over the last two seasons.

The 27-year-old has featured more as a striker than on the wing so far this term, and has netted just once in three league matches.

The form of Messi, as well as the arrivals of Luis Suarez and Neymar, meant that Sanchez struggled for football at Barcelona, but at Arsenal the South American has proven himself to be one of the league’s best talents.
