Sanchez reportedly ‘very close’ to joining Manchester City ahead of Chelsea

Alexis Sanchez is ‘very close’ to agreeing a summer move to Manchester City, according to reports in Chile.

Radio Cooperativa report that Sanchez has already decided that this will be his final season with Arsenal, while City are prepared to pay their Premier League rivals a £50 million transfer fee.

It’s also claimed that Pep Guardiola has asked the 28-year-old to join him at the Etihad Stadium, and the club are willing to offer the Chile international a contract worth £200,000 a week.

Sanchez will have only a year remaining on his current deal with Arsenal and has given no indication that he is ready to extend it beyond June 2018.

Radio Cooperativa also report that Sanchez will link up with his Chile team-mate Claudio Bravo at City, despite rumours suggesting that the goalkeeper will be sold after his unconvincing debut season in the Premier League.

Two weeks ago, Sanchez appeared to give Chelsea hope in their pursuit by suggesting that he wants to remain in London with a team who possess a ‘winning mentality’.

‘I am happy in London and hope to finish my contract there,’ he said.

‘I’d like to stay in the city but with a team that is winning things, that has a winning mentality.

‘I’m 28 years old, I still have a lot of years ahead of me. I am a player who looks after himself.’

Reports last month also claimed that Antonio Conte has specifically requested the signing of Sanchez, and has informed Chelsea’s technical director, Michael Emenalo, of his wish.
