Sanchez reveals he’s flattered after receiving praise from Ivan Zamorano

Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has expressed his delight after he overtook Ivan Zamorano to become Chile’s second-highest goalscorer of all time.

Sanchez hit a brace as Chile beat Uruguay 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier Tuesday night and is now just one goal away from equalling Marcelo Salas’ record.

Sanchez told Latercera: “(It) makes me happy. But every game I demand, with the team, with the club. Every time I want to overcome. But I’m very happy to be top scorer with 36 goals and I’m one off Marcelo Salas. It’s what I want: with two goals I get over the ‘Matador’.

Furthermore, following his two goals yesterday, Zamorano hailed Sanchez after the Arsenal star bettered his tally for Chile.

Sanchez responded to Zamorano’s praise, saying: “I’m very happy that a player of his quality said that. It flatters me.”

There was a considerable amount of doubt prior to the game as to whether Sanchez would be fit enough to play against Uruguay but he came through the fixture unscathed and should now be available to feature when Arsenal face Manchester United away in the Premier League on Saturday.

Although he was previously regularly deployed as a winger, Sanchez has mainly been used up front this campaign and has made a major impact, scoring six goals in eleven Premier League games.

A victory over United would provide a major boost to Arsenal’s title hopes, with Arsene Wenger’s side looking to extend their unbeaten run across all competitions to 17 matches.
