Scholes reveals he’s excited by Ibrahimovic’s signing

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes revealed that the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic excites him, believing it’s a “clever” short-term move.

The signing of Ibrahimovic was confirmed by United on Friday, with the Swedish international signing a one-year contract after his deal with Paris Saint-Germain expired.

He’s Jose Mourinho’s second signing after Eric Bailly at Old Trafford, and could be joined soon by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The signing of Ibrahimovic has excited a lot of United fans, and speaking to BBC Sport Scholes said that he was one of them.

“It does excite me yeah, we’re clever enough to know it’s only going to be one or two years but he’s a fit lad and he looks after himself,” the BT pundit said. “He’s got great charisma and I think he could pull it off without a shadow of a doubt.”

Last season in Ligue 1, Ibrahimovic scored 38 goals and registered 13 assists, meaning he contributed directly to 51 goals; two more than the entire United squad managed in total.

Anthony Martial was the only United player who managed to reach double figures in the Premier League last season, but Ibrahimovic is expected to become the first-choice striker under Mourinho.

United begin their pre-season schedule in a couple of weeks, and open their Premier League campaign away at Bournemouth.

Meanwhile in the fourth game of the season they face Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, who managed Ibrahimovic at Barcelona.
