Claudio Ranieri’s tactics, Riyad Mahrez’s creativity and Jamie Vardy’s goals have all played a part in Leicester City’s remarkable season but good karma is what will land them the Premier League title, according to a Thai monk.
With four games remaining, the Foxes are eight points clear of nearest rivals Tottenham and fans at the King Power Stadium have started to allow themselves to dream of finishing top of the pile.
While Vardy’s 22 strikes, N’Golo Kante’s work-rate and the defensive brick wall supplied by Robert Huth and Wes Morgan can all be considered vital in such an unpredictable success story, one man believes in a more unconventional contributing factor.
Buddhist monk Phra Prommangkalachan, the 63-year-old assistant to the abbot of Bangkok’s Traimitr Temple, thinks the honest work of Leicester’s billionaire owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, has been hugely influential.
‘It’s not got anything to do with magic. It’s Vichai’s good deeds that help garner support from fans across the world which became the power for Leicester City Football Club,’ he told Reuters TV.
‘I believe that all the good karma that Vichai has made will be a factor that helps Leicester to definitely win the Premier League.’
Srivaddhanaprabha is a regular devotee of the monk, believed by some to have magical powers which have helped Leicester this season.
Srivaddhanaprabha has invited Phra Prommangkalachan to give his blessings at the King Power and the monk said he would travel to England ‘very soon’.
In the meantime, Phra Prommangkalachan is helping Leicester’s unlikely run by giving away holy cloths in blue, white and gold to bring luck to the team, who scrapped a 2-2 draw with West Ham on Sunday.
‘The holy cloth is just like one of the psychological tools that we created to reinforce the moral support and create positive thinking for the team,’ he said.
