Tottenham star Eriksen reveals how he helped Dele Alli prepare his acceptance speech

Dele Alli won the PFA Young Player of the Award on Sunday evening but he had a little helping hand from his Tottenham Hotspur teammate Christian Eriksen when preparing his acceptance speech for the prize.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has enjoyed an excellent debut season in the Premier League with Spurs, scoring 10 goals and registering nine assists for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Eriksen believes Alli was more than deserving of the award, but the Dane admitted he had to help Alli prepare his words before he received the accolade.

“I helped him prepare his speech!” Eriksen told Tottenham’s official website.

“No, seriously, he’s earned it with all he’s done this season and it’s definitely been a year to remember, first of all, club-wise but also for himself. He’s achieved a lot and shown who he really is.

“It’s always nice to be in the team with good players around you – that’s not just Dele but everyone really. If you have good players around you then you play better. Of course, we all try to help Dele and Dele tries to help us. He gets a lot of credit and he deserves it.”

None of the Tottenham players were in attendance at the ceremony as they have a crucial game with West Bromwich Albion on Monday evening as they look to close the gap on league leaders Leicester City.

The Lilywhites are the only team who can catch the Foxes at the summit of the table, but they now need only five points from their remaining three games in order to secure the title.

Alli was still playing for MK Dons in League One at this time last season but has been one of Tottenham’s best players this term and has also earned six caps for England.
