Vertonghen: I would not swap Harry Kane for any player

Jan Vertonghen says Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane is in such good form that he would not swap him for any other player.

Vertonghen, Kane and the rest of the Tottenham squad will come up against four-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo when Real Madrid visit Wembley for a Champions League game on Wednesday.

Ronaldo remains one of the most dangerous forwards in world football but Kane, who returned to training on Tuesday following a hamstring strain, has been in prolific form in front of goal, winning the Premier League Golden Boot for the last two seasons.

Asked to compare Ronaldo and Kane, Vertonghen said: “Obviously they are both unbelievable players. Ronaldo has his qualities and Harry has his.

“We have got to show respect to Ronaldo, for everything he has won over the years and what he is still doing, and the level he is still playing at.

“It is hard to compare because they are different kinds of players but Harry is for me one of the best number nines in Europe, maybe the best, and he shows that every week.

“I wouldn’t swap Harry for any player at the moment.”
