Theo Walcott has expressed his own disbelief after the striker scored his 100th goal for Arsenal in the FA Cup on Monday night.
The England striker doubled the visitors’s lead in the second half of Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Non League outfit Sutton United in the fifth round after Lucas Perez had made the breakthrough in the opening period.
Walcott has now scored 100 times in 370 appearances in all competitions for the north London side after the 27-year-old moved to the Gunners in a big-money deal from Southampton in 2006.
The Arsenal centre-forward has scored 15 times in 26 games in the 2016-17 season so far and Walcott has only scored more goals than his current tally once – in the 2012-13 season.
Speaking to Arsenal’s website about his century of goals for the north London club, Walcott said:
“No, not really,” Walcott told Arsenal’s website.
“I always wanted to put my all in, hard work, but never really [expected to] be in that category of 100 goals for Arsenal.
“It’s great. I’m lost for words to be fair because I didn’t really think about it before and it’s just happened. It’ll probably hit me in a few days I’m sure, but I really enjoyed that.
“I’m really proud of that personal achievement of mine. Especially playing out wide, to get that many goals… I don’t want it to stop now. It’s a really good achievement, I’m really happy.
“I couldn’t have done it without the guys as well, past and present, and I can’t thank them enough, all the players I’ve played with up to this point, and this group is brilliant. That’s a special moment for myself personally.”
Arsenal are in fourth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of current leaders Chelsea.
The Gunners will host Non League side Lincoln City in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the Emirates Stadium.
