I want to help Nigeria win U-20 World Cup – Asuquo

Wales-based Nigerian player Etim Asuquo has declared his interest and determination to make the national U-20 team with the ultimate aim of helping the Flying Eagles win an historic first ever FIFA World Youth Championship.

The youngster, on the books of Murton Rovers in the Swansea Senior Football League, is also optimistic of his chances of making the team given his skills set which he claims will be invaluable during the qualifiers as well as at the competition proper.

The 18-year old highly-rated winger who’s proficient on both wings, is regarded for being quick on the ball and notable for his dribbling skills.

Despite playing from the wings, Asuquo has scored 25 goals with 20 assists in just 45 games since joining Murton Rovers.

On why he wants to chose Nigeria ahead of Wales, he admitted that the competition for places in the Welsh team may not be as intense as that of the Flying Eagles but would rather play for his fatherland than any other country.

“It’s always been my dream to represent my country and also my place of birth. Playing for Nigeria, given the number of talents at the disposal of the coaches, will be more challenging but I’m up for the challenge and that’s why I’m throwing my hat into the ring,” the Cross River born player said.

Asuquo considers his technical knowledge of the game, accurate passing with both feet as well as being a good team player as his greatest assets and he would love to use this in helping the country win laurels.

He said: “Its still a mystery that we’ve not won the U-20 title yet despite dominating at the U-17. This should be the time to put that right and I want to be a part of the team that will make history by bringing home the World Youth Championship title. It will be a dream come true for me”.

Despite two final appearances, Nigeria is yet to win FIFA’s second most valuable competition with Ghana being the only African country to have that honour.
