Wanyama: Arsenal were lucky Dembele missed north London derby

Tottenham Hotspur showed they are “better and fitter” than Arsenal, who were “lucky” not to face Mousa Dembele, according to fellow midfielder Victor Wanyama.

In the final north London derby at White Hart Lane, Spurs eased to a 2-0 victory over their great rivals on Sunday afternoon.

A quick-fire double from Dele Alli and Harry Kane early in the second half sealed the three points, with Arsenal widely criticised for a weak performance through the spine of the side.

Wanyama told Spurs’ official website: “We showed who was the better team and who was the fitter team. We are fit, we knew we would wear them out come the second half.

“We kept on pushing them and we smelled some good opportunities. We knew that if we kept on pushing them like that, we would have a good performance and we did by the end of the game.

“Mousa is a good player. I think they are lucky that Mousa was not there because if Mousa was there it would be different – it could have been even better!”

The Belgium international has continued his exceptional record in dribbles, winning more take-ons (67) than any other Spurs player.

Dembele impressively tops the rankings across several other metrics, too, including pass accuracy (92%) and successful passes per 90 minutes (59).

Furthermore, the 29-year-old has shown his ball-winning capability alongside Wanyama, winning the most tackles per game (2.08) of Pochettino’s men.
