Wenger “99% sure” Arsenal will sign Mustafi and Perez

Arsene Wenger is “99% sure” that Arsenal will sign both Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez by the end of the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have been heavily criticised by their supporters so far this campaign, after once again failing to light up the summer transfer window.

Wenger has bore the brunt of most of the criticism, although it appears the 66-year-old is finally getting the cash out to help his side really get their season underway.

Reports on Thursday revealed that Perez, a 27-year-old forward for Deportivo La Coruna, had seen his release clause of roughly £17 million activated by Arsenal.

And to sweeten up the thoughts of Arsenal supporters further heading into the weekend, it was reported on Friday morning that Mustafi was also heading to the capital ahead of a £35 million move from Valencia.

“We are working on the deals,” Wenger said at a press conference on Friday. “We are not close enough to announce to you today that they will sign for us. I’m 99 per cent confident we will sign somebody before the end of the transfer window.

“Today maybe I’m a bit too optimistic but I hope we’ll have done what we want before deadline day.”

Arsenal are yet to win a league game this season, after suffering an opening day defeat to Liverpool and then drawing at reigning champions Leicester City.

Wenger’s side face Watford in the capital on Saturday, before the international takes centre stage ahead of a gruelling autumn period for Arsenal.
