Wenger admits Ozil lacks confidence amid claims Arsenal star could be dropped

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the time has come for Mesut Ozil to get back to goalscoring ways for the club.

The Gunners have gone through some indifferent form of late and Ozil has also come under strong criticism for his below-par performances in the recent defeats to Watford and Chelsea.

The 28-year-old was not at his best once again on Saturday as Arsenal made hard work of a home win over Hull City, although the Germany international did play a part in the second goal.

The attacking midfielder has managed five league goals this season and whilst goalscoring has not always been his forte, the last of those five came on the 10th December.

Ahead of the clash with Bayern Munich this week, Wenger issued a rallying cry for his star player to chip in more with some goals.

“It’s time for him to score again,” Wenger told the club’s official website. “Maybe he will find confidence back as well,
because he misses chances. He is missing the chances that don’t look unfeasible for him.”

“I felt he didn’t feel confident against Hull. It’s always a problem because you think he can deliver something special, but it’s true that technically he missed things [against Hull] that he is not used to.

“I don’t know – it can happen. I don’t know any specific reason. I had a chat with him [on Friday].”

Ozil, along with Alexis Sanchez, is yet to commit his future to the club and the longer that particular situation goes on, the more frustrated Arsenal fans will become.
