Wenger fumes at Iwobi night out before Arsenal FA Cup exit

As if he didn’t have enough on his plate, Alex Iwobi’s decision to go partying two days before Arsenal’s defeat at Nottingham Forest didn’t help Arsene Wenger’ s mood.

‘If that is true, he will be fined,’ insisted Wenger.

‘It is impossible to go out 48 hours before a game. It’s unacceptable.’ Right now, Wenger’s confronted by problems where ever he turns.

Five points off the Champions League positions and out of the FA Cup after Sunday’s shock loss at the City Ground; the Wenger Out Brigade are at the end of the tether.

Well, what’s new? They have been for the past five years.

Dissenters within the club have that ‘I told you so’ look on their face.

They predicted this when Wenger – backed by majority shareholder Stan Kroenke – signed a two year extension to his contract.

But those naysayers are keeping schtum…for now.

There are no calls for Wenger to be sacked. For now – at least – they are purporting to be singing off the same hymn sheet.

Maybe they are waiting for Wenger, in a proverbial sense, to hang himself.

A trophyless season coupled with another year outside the top four and the calls for Wenger to leave – from within the club and their supporters base – would become deafening.

But the idea of Wenger walking away from the Emirates seems wishful thinking. After 21 years, why would he walk away from a contract now? Wenger faced opposition from inside and outside the club last summer but still signed the extension.

What Wenger will face this summer, however, is calls to provide a clear idea over whether he intends to stay manager beyond 2019 or finally make way for a new man.

There was a feeling the uncertainty surrounding Wenger’s future towards the end of last season unsettled the team as they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Wenger has admitted as such. The Arsenal hierarchy want to avoid making the same mistake this time around.
