Arsene Wenger has warned Mesut Ozil the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, as the in-form playmaker continues to stall on signing a new deal that would see him commit his peak years to the club.
The 28-year-old is currently enjoying a purple patch in front of goal and completed his first ever professional hat-trick in the midweek Champions League annihilation of Ludgorates, taking his season’s tally to six in all competitions.
Ozil, who moved to Arsenal for a club record £42.5 million from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, first entered into discussions over a new contract midway though last season but is yet to sign an extension.
Reports have suggested his own future could be determined by whether or not Wenger pens a fresh deal at the end of the current season with the long- serving Frenchman’s own contract set to expire in May, while others have claimed Ozil is demanding in excess of £200,000-a-week in order to sign on the dotted line.
Regardless of whether or not he prolongs his own tenure, Wenger believes the World Cup winner is in the perfect place to fulfil his potential.
